Earth.io

The Earth.io app was a prototype created to show the proof of concept for an investing app designed to show investors the potential future product and gain funding to create a working product. I was the UX and UI designer of this app, so this shows my visual design skills when not working with a visual designer.

I met a fellow Babson MBA student shortly before moving from Boston to Denver and had free time during my days in Denver while searching for a UX job, so I took on the role of designer for this startup to keep my UX skills up.

The purpose of the app is to use spare-change investing (if you make a purchase of $5.40, the app rounds up to $6.00 and invests $0.60 automatically) to invest in environmentally-friendly ventures, such as geothermal energy, solar panels, and organic farms.

The app has two main sections: Stories and Portfolio.

Stories is modeled after Instagram and allows users to scroll through potential investments to see where they would like to put their money. The user could be drawn in my images of farms or stories of schools. Next to each story, the user sees if they are invested in this project and, if they aren’t, they can invest automatically with a single click. As projects progress, bondholders will post their Impact so users can see the good coming from their investments.

Portfolio shows the user their portfolio mix, dividend schedule, account value, and whether or not users are pulling in additional funds from an outside source (like a checking account) to add to their spare-change investing.
